Schwartz, Herman

Mid 20th century artist who was an easel painter and used oils on both canvas and Masonite. Schwartz was a Philadelphia paper manufacturer who suffered a heart attack and was forced to curtail his business activities. While he was in cardiac rehab he began to paint and after therapy had ended he knew he had found a new love and purpose in life and that was to paint.  He became a full time artist and concentrated in real life situations with a folk art style approach to his work. Although he has never been featured in a museum exhibit he was featured on the front page of a Sunday edition of a prominent Philadelphia newspaper in the 1970’s. He has sold at auction primarily at Alderfer’s in Pennsylvania and has achieved some public recognition by sales.
