Born in the Ukraine in 1903 and started painting at age 12. Studied in Russia, at the National Academy of Design, and emigrated to New York City to study at the Art Students’ League. He studied with Sydney Dickenson, Ivan Olinsky, and Robert Phillips, and also privately with many famous artists. He is considered to be an impressionist painter of landscapes, figures, still lifes, interiors, and marine scenes. Although his style expressed his feelings about his subjects he stuck to a traditionalist approach to painting being influenced by the French Tonalist artist Camille Corot. He has won numerous awards, to wit: Salmagundi Club Awards 1963, 1965, 1966, and 1967; the Robert Simmons Brush Award in 1966; and the Grumbacher Award at the National Arts Club, 1969. His solo shows have been in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. He was commissioned by the United States Navy to paint portraits of high ranking Navy personnel. He has painted portraits of Walter Matthau and former Miss America, Bess Myerson. He was elected as a member of the Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, Artist’s Fellowship, Nacal, Knickerbocker Society, and in 1981 to the Hudson Vallery Art Association. He has been an instructor in the Continuing Cultural Program at McGraw-Hill Publishing, J.C. Penny, Equitable Life Assurance Society, and the Irving Trust Company. In his early career he was represented by Hammer Galleries and the Grand Central Art Gallery in New York City. His work was offered on the gulf Coast at the Darvish Gallery in Naples Florida where a retrospective of his work was offered in 1999 two years after his death in 1997.
